Founded in 1882, Payson is the hub of the Arizona Mogollon Rim Country, made famous in the Zane Grey novels.  The region has long been a vacation getaway for Phoenix and Flagstaff area residents. In recent years, the area has gained popularity as a high country retirement location as well as a year-round primary residence.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Surrounded by the Tonto National Forest, the Payson vicinity offers superb outdoor recreational opportunities. Shown right, an idyllic creekside spot near the fish hatchery in the Tonto National Forest north of Payson.  Another popular outdoor attraction: the Tonto Natural Bridge.

GOLF

Area private golf courses include Chaparral Pines , and The Rim Golf Club. The Payson Golf Course is a public course. Shown here: the 10th hole at Chaparral Pines.

SHOPPING & RESTAURANTS 

Payson retail options include major grocery stores, Walmart, and Home Depot as well as a wide array of smaller stores to supply all of your daily needs. Payson and neighboring Pine, and Christopher Creek also boast distinctive specialty stores, fine art and crafts, and antique shops. And whether you are looking for a quick bite or quality casual dining, a great steak or authentic Mexican cuisine, area restaurants are sure to satusfy.

ACTIVITIES

From rodeo to casino to summer concerts in Green Valley Park, there is always something fun going on in the Rim Country.
